Holy crap. I did it. April 10th is the 100th day of the year and my 100th post of the year. Most of my posts totally sucked, but I still finished something I started. And that’s pretty awesome for me. It’s fitting that today I tried to do a little spring cleaning (it’s gonna be a long project), because this blog is gonna be the kick off to some more changes. I’ve decided to not keep blogging every single day, opting for substance over stats. But I’m going to blog at least once a week.

Anyway, no Chuck post tomorrow, but I will post it on Monday (probably). For now, I’ll let you know that I spent the day enjoying the weather and completely not worrying about posting. So in honor of that: Pic Spam!

• Tonight, I’m off to the orchestra! Hence the earliness of this post. It also is what I was rambling about yesterday that seemed to go over so well. I mean, seriously, who knew that Beethoven was no longer the cat’s meow?

• So, early reports for the movie Date Night is that it’s a terrible script, but works really well on the drive of the two awesome leads (Steve Carrell and Tina Fey). I was worried it would be terrible, but it looks like it may be worth a gander. If anyone checks it out, lemme know if it’ll be worth the cost of admission.

• Please explain Justin Beiber. I feel like, if there is only one thing I have learned from the new Twitter homepage, it’s that apparently, this kid is all anyone ever tweets about. And apparently the Jonas Brothers fans hate the Justin Beiber fans? Calm down, girls, they’re both obnoxious.

• Project Runway!!!!!!!!!!
  

  Heidi and Tim, awesome overload.

  So who’s been watching this season? Don’t lie. Yea, it’s crazy.So, Major Spoilers for last night’s episode of Project Runway, but the announced who was going to Bryant Park. Sadly, adorable Anthony didn’t make it, but expect great things. Mila and Jay are “tied” and will have to make a collection, but then compete to actually get to the final show. Mila will most undoubtedly color block everything. Emilio and Seth Aaron are guaranteed in for the finale. It should be a great show! As a subpoint, Nobody tell me what happened on Shear Genius! I’ve DVRed the episode, but haven’t had time to watch. Hopefully Brie did not win, considering she’s a hang with Orange Fanta colored hair.

• Chuck. I know, I know, I talk about this show all the time. But it’s “on the bubble” so to speak and it needs to be saved. Chuck has made it to E!’s Save One Show final round and the show needs your votes. Please go and vote for Chuck to save it for another season. Click here to support one of the best shows on TV.

When I was in Paris, I remember running (literally running) up the stairs to make the orchestra program I had to see for class. The ushers teased cheered me on, “Vite, vite, mademoiselle, vite!” I sat down right at the emcee was announcing the beginning of the show. The subway practically breaking down and causing me to almost miss everything didn’t cause nearly as much of an adrenaline rush as the music. It was beautiful and intense. Most of the music came from French composers (it was a French culture class), but regardless of the origin, it all felt heavenly.

I don’t claim to have the most sophisticated palate when it comes to music. But music can be a lot like food. Sure, I may consume a lot of junk that pops and fizzes and holds a little substance, but when I’m presented with something that is sumptuous and filling and delightful, it stops me dead. Great timeless music, like food, can capture your heart and still your soul.

Very powerful stuff.

Beethoven is guaranteed to hold my interests and catch my breath. While he’s not the only composer for the evening, the program itself is called Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto. The final song will be the Emperor Concerto which is… wonderful. The man was intriguing and his music astounding. Saying anything else would be unnecessary. Great works speak for themselves, besides, you can read about him, if you’d like.

To end the evening, I leave you with the Emperor Concerto and the soothing Moonlight Sonata.

Anyway, it was moderately interesting and VERY pretty to look at, but what I really wanna know is…

WILL IT BLEND!?!?!

Because of this exciting event, I get a day off (since I have to work on a Saturday) and I’ve decided that my mom and I need to get away.  Yay. So the following friday after next weekend, my mom and I will be a girls weekend! This was all decided at about noon today by me, my mom agreed later, but eh, semantics. Anyway we wanna go to Asheville and hang out at the Biltmore.

So pretty!

But!

We’re thinking about doing the “Brews Cruise” that takes you around Asheville to a few of the local breweries. We obviously wanna go to the Biltmore, but we’re trying to figure out where to stay and what else to do.

So, I’m shooting it out to y’all.

Any suggestions for the area of Asheille?

Episode 3.12 of Chuck was titled Chuck vs. American Hero and I have a heard time thinking of American Hero without thinking about Enrique Iglesias’ timeless ballad “Hero” or G.I. Joes, Real American Heroes! But hey, enough about early aughts song-smiths and childhood classics, let’s talk Chuck, shall we? Before I get into any potential spoilers for the uninitiated to the Chuck saga, let me send out a plea…

Please watch Chuck. It’s another show “on the bubble” this year and despite the (decently) strong ratings the first half of the season, the show has been trying to regain momentum after the drop in ratings after Daylight Savings Time.  It doesn’t help that the show has to compete with gag Dancing with the Stars… of course it doesn’t hurt either that NBC’s ratings are so overall terrible that the slump in ratings for Chuck isn’t that horrendous in comparison.

But still, watch Chuck! Especially if you are a Nielson family. And if you know a Nielson family, hijack their box for one night and play Chuck. The powers that be of scripted shows and not poorly danced pseudo-celebrity reality competitions will thank you.

Also, the cast was at WonderCon being Ahhhhdoooorabul and also asking for your viewership. Case in point:

Now since the cast has promised an AMAZING episode tonight (plus all of the critics who saw the screening last night concurred) let’s talk about vs. The American Hero, shall we?

So. The episode boils down to this. Chuck gets a week to decide “straighten things out” before he jets off to Rome AND by the end of the week he gets to pick his own team of super spies to go with him. Chuck (naturally) wants Sarah, but wants her to come on her own terms so he must win her back. He heads back to Burbank to win his love back, but then gets depressed, but then The Three Bromigos (see what I did there?) (aka Morgan, Casey and Awesome) decide that his depression is weak sauce and that he totally needs to win back Sarah so everyone can “Veevah Eetahliah” (say that like a pizza selling cartoon character). Then, when Chuck mans up (after Awesome throws a man through a window, no seriously, it happened) and tells Sarah he loves her, he finds out that she’s with Shaw (blah) and then finds out that Shaw has gone to sacrifice himself so that they can destroy a Ring base with the leader inside. When Chuck realizes that Shaw means everything to Sarah, he locks Sarah in Castle so that he can try and save Shaw. Now, before I go any further, I wanna show you a comparative image, I saw on tumblr the other day. It’s quite revealing…

Sarah: You can’t destroy the Castle, Chuck is down there.

I mean… That says a lot right there. Shaw is not only wooden, but a dweeb. And I’m not a Chuck/Sarah shipper (I think Sarah is just being obnoxious with the relationship at this point and liked that quick second when they were separate and only sort of with Hannah and Shaw and their respective relationships hadn’t gotten annoying yet), but regardless Shaw equals Captain Antithesis Awesome. Don’t ask me if that’s supposed to make sense or not.

Anyway, back to the plot. Chuck goes to the place where the transmitter in Shaw is supposed to be, but surprise surprise (only to Chuck, we saw it 3 minutes beforehand), Shaw is gone and the transmitter is covered in spit. But lucky for chuck Jefster makes an amazing stalking duo and they direct him to Shaw’s locale. After Chuck gets there he rides on a hokey Dr. Pibb Jibb machine and heads into the belly of the Ring hideout (not the headquarters, I’m to presume, that would have to be in Mordor, yes?) and shoots a couple of spies and saves Shaw through a hail of explosion debris and the thanks of Miss Walker (who made it there after she Morse coded for help to Casey). BUT WAIT! There’s more. Before Chuck saved Shaw, Shaw was knocked unconscious. But before that! A hologram of the Ring leader showed him who killed his wife (aka, the person Shaw vowed to kill). And guess what? Sarah totally killed Mrs. Shaw for her red test.

Whoops.

Chuck doesn’t know this and neither does Sarah, so while they’re hanging out in Castle while Shaw’s hanging out in Unconscious-ville, they discuss other things. Like sitting in a tree… K-I-S-S-I-N-G. Ha. But no, Chuck asks her to run away with him that night (before they have to go and do their spy things) and asks to kiss her. They kiss then, they’re supposed to meet up later. But woe is Sarah, she thinks Chuck is a cold-blooded killer since he won’t reveal the truth about the red test.

Knock, knock? Who’s that? Casey. Casey who? Casey who’s visiting Sarah to tell her that he killed the Ring informant, not Chuck. Sarah smiles (Oh, come on! I mention Iglesias, I have to throw in Hall and Oats!). Has she made her decision? Well she’s packed and throws her gun on the bed (that’s a terrible tip for the maid, Sarah).

But then Shaw comes a-knocking! And he says he’s found out where the ring leader is! And they need to go right then! And no, she doesn’t have time to Call Chuck! And they drive off!

Chuck stands dejected in the train station when the general calls. In Castle, she tells him that they can’t find Sarah. And that they recovered the video footage of Sarah killing Mrs. Shaw. And they think Shaw has Sarah.

WHAT WILL THEY DO!!?

Well I guess we’ll tune in tonight to find out, won’t we?

You’d better. Or else. Or else, I’ll… make you buy a Subway Footlong. Yea, that’s the ticket.

In honor of this amazing day, I went to church, iced my cake, took a nap, and spent all evening with family. It was such a great holiday that I didn’t mind the pollen or having to run to Wal-Mart (patewie!). I also broke lent by gnoshing on some sweets. A few Dove chocolate pieces, a donut, some peeps and some cake!

Not at the same time.

I am not a pig. I did eat a delicious ham, though.

The Sparkling Raspberry Champagne Cake was awesome! I used raspberry sparkeltini that’s really inexpensive (around 6.50) and really delicious. I also used some strawberry flavoring and real raspberries. It was a light and scrumptious desert. I also liked that the frosting I made for it was nice and fruity and the splash of champagne made it super airy.

Anyway, since I spent so much time resting, I figured I’d give myself a break from my Chuck blog (which I’ll have finished before tomorrow’s episode) and just revel in the very good day.

The Resurrection

¹After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.

²There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. ³His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. ⁴The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.

⁵The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. ⁶He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.⁷Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”

The paint had finished drying mere hours ago; a few smudges stained the edge of the canvas. The canvas and paint that was bought from the craft store 22 minutes before the doors closed. And the doors had closed about nine hours before the kids had to be at school. Class started at 7:30 and Vicki new she had to get her kids out of the door by 7.

Of course they’d been running late, which is why Vicki and slipped into a visitor’s parking space and rushed Kyra and Jane to the classroom. Mommy would have to tell a fib, she told the twins, but it’d be ok. 7:37 and Vicki knocked on the door, holding the painting her 8-year-olds had hastily mastermind at about 10:47. Her twins affected a sullen look, as required by the strong admonishments their mother had given them that morning will switching two lanes of traffic.

“No more last minute projects!” She said to the rearview mirror.

“Yes ma’am.” The chorus said.

“No more waking up way too late, you understand?” She emphasized the point with a honk to the slow-moving driver in front of her. Who drives 10 under the left lane?

“Yes ma’am.” The chorus said. They knew better than to match her honk with a fit of giggles.

Miss Donald opened the door. She was wearing a confused expression and a faded cotton jumper. Who wears a cotton jumper in her mid-twenties? Vicki smiled. “I’m so sorry, Miss Donald, they’re late, I know, but it’s my fault.” She straightened out her unkempt ponytail with her bare left hand. “I just, well…” She waved her hand again for emphasis.

Miss Donald put a frown and nodded her head. “Oh, yes, of course.” Vicki smiled a “thank you for understanding,” smile, not a “thanks for believing that all single mothers live in constant misery, you sucker,” smile.

“I have their painting!” Vicki held it up for inspection and tried to temper her eagerness. She realized much too late that she probably shouldn’t have been that excited to show off a hastily slapped together art project, but knew she was too far in to back out. The twins watched quietly as their teacher glanced it over. Vicki clocked their quiet time at about 13 minutes, a new record.

“Well, that’s…” She took a longer look at it and smiled brightly. “This is lovely work, you two!” Miss Donald took it from Vicki and appraised it some more. “Yes, it’s great. Very modern… With some impressionist inspiration. I see you two were paying attention when we discussed Monet!”

Vicki looked down at her twins. She raised an eyebrow and they shrugged their shoulders. She was more confused by the fact that they were discussing Monet in elementary school, a subject she read about in high school, then she was by the fact that Miss Donald liked the girls’ blobular flowers.

“If that’s it then, I’ll just hand these two little Rembrants off to you and be on my way. Thanks, Miss Donald.”

As she turned around she let out the breath that she’d been holding. When the girls had started slapping on the paint she’d been unsure of their vision. ‘I can’t figure out if they’re smart or just really, really luck,’ she thought to herself. Probably a mix of both, just like their mom.
